The Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń is among the top Polish universities classified in the recently published Times Higher Education ranking by subject areas. THE is one of the most prestigious international rankings of higher education schools.

The NCU appears in three of the four subject areas of THE World University Rankings 2019 published in November.

In the medical sciences, the ranking lists only two Polish universities: the Jagiellonian University (in the range 401-500 in the world) and the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (classified in the 601+range). The NCU took the same position in the area of life sciences (after the Jagiellonian University, the University of Warsaw and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań). In the field of physical sciences the NCU is listed in the range 601-800, (also after the University of Warsaw, the Jagiellonian University, and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań).

In the previous rankings by subject areas published in October, the NCU appeared in two: devoted to social sciences (place 601+) and to the humanities and arts (401+). At the end of November the Times Higher Education will publish this year's last rankings related to the university's achievements in computer science and engineering.

THE World University Rankings 2019 by subject areas is prepared – similarly to the main THEranking - on the basis of 13 criteria grouped into five categories: teaching, internationalization, research, citations and cooperation with business. The creators of the ranking take into account three elements of the university's mission: education, science and knowledge transfer.
